Maathanga is a prayer and a salutation to Lord Ganesha (who is called Ganapati in the South of India) and the lyrics are all in praise of different aspects of his character and attributes and his family connections! Lord Ganesha is praised as the remover of illusions (Maya), the son of Lord Siva (Shambo) and Goddress Parvati (Mata Maheswari) with an elephant face (Mathanga) riding on a mouse (Mooshika Vahana)
